Life In Slow Motion

It's not often that I get a great urge to get on a soap box. However, today I must speak out. There are a few things I simply don't understand. Nor can I think of any acceptable excuses. After all there ARE several means of finding a new home or shelter for a dog.

When someone is old and ill, do we ignore them and leave them in the street? How about a dog? If the dog is old, has a bad hip, do you just toss him to the streets to fend for himself?

Sonny has called me during his lunch for a week now telling me about this old lab who keeps going to him in search of attention and food. Sonny shares his lunch and companionship with the old fellow. He couldn't understand why someone would bring him to work and let him roam the parking lot.

Today he learned from a coworker that the dog had been dumped, that he had just been abandoned in a warehouse part of town! A domesticated dog, with good manners just dumped like a piece of trash! Another coworker actually witnessed the event.

Last night Sonny called me and told me to come and pick up the dog. Since Sonny rode to work on his motorcycle he couldn't exactly bring the old dog home on the bike.

When I pulled up I saw the saddest looking fellow standing beside Sonny. It was as if he knew that as soon as Sonny got on the motorcycle he would be left alone again. He had a very woe-be-gone look. Tears were forming in my eyes as I looked at the poor old soul left behind like he was a piece of trash.

Without hesitation, he jumped into my car when invited. He laid down in the back seat and sat there quietly waiting to see what fate would bring with this ride.

We pulled up in front of our house and he looked out the window and saw Toby, our lab/shephard mix dog. His tail started to wag and he enthusiastically jumped out of the car and started sniffing Toby. The two were wagging tails and eager to be friends.

Gone was the sad look in his eyes, he had a perky puppy attitude and seemed delighted in finding a friend.

It seems as if we might have a new family member. It also seems that our house just got a wee bit smaller! This evening he is stiff and moving slowly but, his tail is often wagging and his eyes seem to have a look of gratitude. He's the most adorable gentle boy with big soulful eyes.

We've been calling him Slo Mo as he moves very slow.

Yep, Slo Mo has a new Mommy, Daddy and brother! :-)

Bless your heart. Slo Mo was lucky to be dumped where he was. He was meant to be part of your family.

Hugs my animal loving friend :-)
